More Than Conquerors

“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:3-5, NIV).

Now two years out with a near miraculous absence from cancer, he came to me,

“I need to tell you that I actually asked for this,” he offered, meaning the cancer and the suffering it had brought.

 “What do you mean?” I asked.

 “I won’t tell you the details, but I needed this. I asked God to do something to bring me to my knees, and He did.”

 I finished the conversation with my arm around his shoulder, “When we get to heaven, I’m looking forward to hearing the details.”
